FPW-WORKSHOP-001 · REV. 3.1

CURRENT · EXPERIMENTS AND BUILDS

Where models meet reality.

The workshop holds experiments being built, tested, revised, or discarded, along with finished objects that have earned their way out of the workshop. This is where an investigation becomes concrete.

Physical computing

Complete enough to leave the workshop.

Not every computer should look or behave like a computer. Future Proof Works explores clocks, lights, displays, sensors, and quiet objects that help people orient themselves without competing for attention.

These builds combine software, electronics, fabrication, and interaction design. A working circuit is a prototype. A finished object is something that can belong in the place where it lives.

PUBLISHING SYSTEM · ACTIVE

Saga renderer

Model being tested: A recurring publication can preserve methodology, history, provenance, and supersession as first-class system data.

Structured issue data, continuity-aware publication logic, and deterministic Typst output.

PHYSICAL COMPUTING · COMPLETED

Ambient color display

Model demonstrated: A small computational object can shape the atmosphere of a room without demanding attention.

A custom-enclosed touchscreen display that generates a new random color every three minutes, calculates readable contrasting text, and fades smoothly from one color to the next. Hidden touch controls close the application or advance immediately to another color.

PHYSICAL COMPUTING · COMPLETED

DIY TRMNL

Model demonstrated: Glanceable information becomes easier to live with when the hardware recedes into a finished domestic object.

A DIY TRMNL e-ink terminal installed in a custom 3D-printed enclosure, turning development hardware into a quiet, low-distraction display designed to live on a desk or shelf.

E-INK · 3D PRINTING · AMBIENT INFORMATION · FINISHED BUILD

PHYSICAL COMPUTING · COMPLETED

Thermal camera

Model demonstrated: An invisible condition becomes actionable when it is translated into an immediate physical view.

A completed handheld thermal-imaging build that makes heat patterns visible for inspection, experimentation, and understanding the physical environment.

HARDWARE · PROOF OF CONCEPT

Ambient batteryless lighting

Model being tested: Useful ambient information can be embedded into an environment without batteries, pairing, or frequent maintenance.

Small inductive lights for status, safety, guidance, play, and low-maintenance domestic systems.

Continuity taxonomy

Model being tested: Continuity failures become easier to recognize and design for when they are separated into distinct types.

A classification of participant, task, project, decision, regression, operational, and historical continuity.

Future Proof publishing framework

Model being tested: One publication system can support websites, books, software releases, technical reports, and serial monitoring without flattening their differences.

The Future Proof Works website is the first living test case.
